Nature meditations

These meditations will help achieve a positive frame of mind. They combine affirmations and visualisation of the natural world to help invoke certain positive mind sets. The affirmations allow the mind to be influenced by repeating a phrase or command. The visualisations help invoke the energy or quality of the mind set you wish to achieve. Used together they can have a powerful effect.

How to use the meditations

Find a comfortable seated position.  A chair, or cross legged on the floor, but ensure your spine is tall, your breath can flow freely and that your position is perfectly comfortable.  Meditation simply won’t work if your mind is being distracted by uncomfortable sensations in your body. 

Choose the nature meditation below that most appeals to you at this moment in time. Read and memorise the affirmation. Read through the simple instructions. Stare at the picture to hold the image in your mind. Perhaps you would like to choose your own mind picture from nature, if you have a special memory or image that would work better for you.

You can use the meditations inside bringing outside nature to your inside meditation. Or perhaps use the affirmations whilst you are sat with your back against an old oak tree, or finding yourself mesmerised by a clear fresh stream, or perhaps appreciating the beauty and aroma of a beautiful flower.

For Strength

Repeat this affirmation three times

I am strong

To enhance the quality and feeling of strength imagine an old oak tree. Picture yourself sitting with your back against the strong solid trunk. Visualise the strong roots that hold the tree firm, extending down and out until they become fine threads seeking out moisture and nutrients. Picture the tree drawing water from the roots up the trunk and into the branches and leaves.

Feel the warm sun on your face. Imagine the suns energy penetrating the leaves and follow the path of that energy back through the branches down the trunk and your back, through to the roots and earth. Feel yourself part of this energy cycle. Let the warmth of the sun and the strength of the tree permeate your whole mind and body.

Finish by repeating the affirmation again three times

I am strong

To Feel Safe

Repeat this affirmation three times:

I am safe

To help feel safe and secure imagine sitting comfortably in a soft armchair by an open fire. Feel your body held snuggly in this chair with your head supported.  You are totally secure.  Feel the warmth from the fire spreading through your whole body helping you to feel completely safe. Watch the darting flames, hear the comforting crackle of the logs, smell the pine and as you inhale deeply notice the aromas of earth and forest. On your exhales repeat again the affirmation

I am safe

Rest here, relaxing and enjoying yourself for another few minutes.

For clarity of thought or mind

Repeat this affirmation three times:

My mind is clear

To enhance the quality of clarity, think of clear running water. Picture the fast clear running water of a chalk stream, made all the more special by its rarity. See the blades of grass beneath the clear water moving and dancing with the power of the stream. Follow the path of the stream as it meanders and runs through a pretty green meadow. Now imagine any distracting or unwanted thoughts flowing away with this running water. Feel the water cleansing, dredging and clearing your entire system. Notice how the image of the water rebalances your body, renews and heals and how free your body and mind now feel. Enjoy this fresh feeling of clarity now as you repeat the affirmation.
